Becca Link

Becca Link (she/her/hers)

Becca grew up in New England but is thrilled to be exploring the west coast of the country. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of New Hampshire, and has a lot of experience working with kids back east. In her spare time, Becca loves catching up with friends, cooking, taking walks, and bingeing the latest Netflix shows

Rebekah Collins (she/her/hers)


Rebekah is a native to Washington and grew up in Tacoma, but has been calling Seattle her home for the past four years. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Washington, double majoring in Political Science and Law, Societies and Justice.  Rebekah enjoys dancing, singing, and going shopping with her friends, but most importantly sitting down and watching a good movie with her snacks readily beside her.

Olivia Capitini (she/her/hers)

Olivian Capitini

Olivia grew up a native Texan pursing Economics as her major in college and graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration focused on Economics. During her free time you can find her hiking and exploring Seattle with her roommates or going to local farmers markets to pick up fresh produce. Olivia also enjoys arts and crafts which can include oil painting, embroidery and film photography.

Kevin Yoon (he/him/his)

Kevin Yoon

Kevin previously worked with elementary students while volunteering in a hospital and is excited to have another opportunity with kids. Kevin grew up in the suburbs of Seattle and graduated with a BS in Kinesiology from the University of Michigan. In his free time, he enjoys reading, working out, and fishing when the weather permits. In the future, Kevin hopes to attain his Master’s in Public Health.  

Alexis Huff (she/her/hers)


Alexis is enthusiastic to work with students and help them reach their goals, and help them see the light that shines within them. Alexis is born and raised on the island of O’ahu, Hawai’i, and moved across the Pacific Ocean to a little unique town called Ashland. She received her bachelor’s in Communication Studies from Southern Oregon University. In her free time, Alexis likes to cook, listen to music (usually both at the same time), hanging out with her friends or exploring whatever area she finds herself in. 

Kali Smith (she/her/hers)


Kali believes strongly in student abilities and is ready to assist kids to reach their full potential. Kali considers Charlotte, NC home, but is excited to explore the beautiful PNW. She graduated from Winthrop University with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies, concentrating in Early Childhood Education. Kali loves to take walks to Lake Washington, listen to live music, and watch movies with her housemates. She is looking forward to working with the Rising Star community to have a great school year!  

Christian Jensen (he/him/his)


Ever since working as a summer camp counselor, Christian has had a love for working with and teaching children. Born in western NY, he received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester in philosophy and psychology. One his favorite experiences of college was getting to volunteer weekly at an elementary school in the Rochester city school district where he would tutor students in various subjects. After serving with City Year, Christian tentatively plans on pursuing a career in education (most likely elementary or high school). 

Jordan Yango (he/him/his)


Jordan grew up listening to President Kennedy’s speeches calling young people to serve their country and communities. He earned a BA in History at the University of Washington in June 2020. During  senior year, he served as a Peer Minister at the Prince of Peace Catholic Newman Center. Jordan also enjoys a number of hobbies, including running, drawing and singing. He ran cross country in High School and sang in the UW Men’s Glee club.

Jennifer Gu (she/her/hers)


Jennifer is a Second Year AmeriCorps Member, and she is excited to be returning for a second year of service at Rising Star Elementary School as the math coordinator to support 5th grade math. Jennifer grew up in Shanghai and attended Columbia University where she majored in English Literature and also studied as a pre-medical student. Jennifer is bilingual in Mandarin and English, and in her free time she loves to read books and cook yummy food.

Nora McUmber (she/her/hers)


Nora is excited to serve a second year at Rising Star and is the new City Year Team Leader. Originally from the DC area, Nora grew up chasing her two older brothers around. At a young age she had a passion for education as she saw the many hurdles she and her classmates faced. Nora graduated with a degree in education and photography from Jacksonville University and earning her TESOL Certificate. Nora ran cross country and track in college and loves to run to this day. Nora hopes to continue to work in Education and earn a masters in school counseling or curriculum design. Fun fact: Nora knows how to Unicycle!

Hanna Katz

Hannah Katz (she/her/hers)

Hannah is excited to join the Rising Star staff and community as this year’s Program Manager for the City Year team! Hannah began her City Year journey two years ago as a corps member at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary, working in a vibrant fourth grade classroom and leading SEL initiatives. Last year she served as the Team Leader and had the opportunity to cultivate a new team at MLK. Hannah grew up in the Bay Area, and then received her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma. After living in Washington for the past 6 years, Hannah can confidently say she is a PNW convert and only occasionally misses the California sun. In her free time, Hannah enjoys hanging out with her sister, making Spotify playlists for friends, playing her guitar, cooking plant-based meals, and reading at least 3 books at once.
