    Roof Replacement Update
    Posted: 10/04/2019

    Dear Firebird families and staff:

Construction activities continue to progress with Phase 1 of our Roof Replacement project at Rising Star Elementary School at the African American Academy. New roofing materials continue to be installed with approximately eighty percent of the western slope of the north wing roof assembly complete. Wayne’s Roofing will require approximately two (2) to three (3) more work days(weather dependent) to complete the roof assembly work on the western slope of the north wing. Wayne’s Roofing has been working most Saturdays when good weather is anticipated.

Interior construction activities also continue to progress allowing the schedule to re-occupy classrooms to remain intact. The first group of classrooms to re-occupy will be those nearest the main stairwell north of the library and are anticipated to be ready to move contents back the second week of October. The time frame to re-occupy the remaining classrooms of the north wing remains on schedule per last week’s update, as does the administrative area.

Occupant safety, health and comfort continues to remain a focus. If you have any questions regarding our Roof Replacement project or student, staff or community safety, please contact Mark Emelko, mmemelko@seattleschools.org, our capital project manager, or me directly.

Thank you for your patience as we complete this project.
